Happy new year?
Here we are, at the end of one year and the start of a new year. It is a time to remember and to look forward to what lies ahead. Was the past year filled with happy memories or sad, or perhaps more likely a mix of both? What will the new year bring?
I'm not one to make a list of resolutions for the year ahead. I know realistically that most resolutions usually last a few days or a few weeks at best. Still, there is something about a new year that makes me want to take stock of where I am now and look at where I'd like to be. Instead of resolving to make changes in my life or do better, maybe it would be more productive to set some goals for the year ahead. Yes, dreams and goals are good; goals with a plan for achieving them are better.
Much as I would like to think I am in control of my life, however, I do not know what the future holds. Only God knows what lies ahead for any of us. That is why plans that are submitted to God are the best. So this new year, I am spending some time seeking God for what he has in mind for the year ahead, setting goals and making plans in line with him. That may take a little more time up front, but it is worth the effort. The Bible says that man makes his plans, but God orders his steps; it seems to me that if we make God a part of our planning process, our plans should go a bit better.
What about you? Have you made a list of resolutions or goals for the new year, or have you given up on all that? Have you talked to God lately about what he wants for you/ You might be surprised to hear what he has to say and how much he would like to be a part of your plans—and your life.
